What is Hammsa?
The Hammsa is a palm-shaped charm, as a superstitious defense against the evil eye. The Hammsa has long represented blessings, power and strength and is thus seen as potent in deflecting the evil eye. It is one of the most common components of jewelry in the Judaism.
Jews sometimes call it the hand of Miriam, the sister of the biblical Moses and Aaron. Five (hamesh in Hebrew) represents the five books of the Torah for Jews. It also symbolizes the fifth letter of the Hebrew alphabet, "Heh", which represents one of God's holy names.
The Hammsa most often can be found as a decorative element in houses. Hammsa hand can be hanged with the fingers pointing up or down.
Hammsa made from metal, plated with sterling silver with crystals and Swarovski crystals.
